Christmas Celebration Report

Report written by Corporal Teh Eng Hong of Squad 5

On the 29th of September 2016, Christmas has come early for Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur International as on this day the whole school celebrated their annual Christmas Celebration. This celebration, spearheaded by the 12th Kuala Lumpur Boys Brigade Company aimed to mark the end of Project Blessings 2016 and to bring about

awareness regarding the plight of those in need and to acknowledge the efforts of the

students and staff of the school who worked tirelessly to bring aid to them through Project Blessings as well as to spread the word that it is indeed better to give rather than recieve.

The event started off with a bang with the whole school welcoming the Guests of Honour, Pastor Timothy Cheah, Reverend Lee Huck Tee, Chairman of the School Christian Support Committee, along with a number of members from the Methodist Council of Education, a few parents from the School Christian Support Committee, representatives from numerous invited beneficiaries which were blessed through the combined efforts of the students and staff such as CADs Enhancement Centre, DUMC Street Ministry, Malaysia Lysosomal Disease Asscociation, Pertiwi Soup Kitchen, SPCA and many more. Once the guests were seated, an opening prayer was said by Reverend Lee Huck Tee.

All the excitement went to its peak with the worship team from the 12th Kuala Lumpur Boys’ Brigade taking the stage to lead everyone present for a time to praise and worship God. Led by Corporal Siew Hui Zhuan, the rhythmic thrum of all the instruments played by their

respective musicians who were Private Brian Tiong being the vocalist, Lance Corporal Ivan Lim being as the bass guitarist, Lance Corporal Ng Kok Foong as the guitarist, Corporal Hoshea Tiang as the pianist and Private Rael Judah as the drummer really set the mood for the whole celebration! After the praise and worship session, Pastor Timothy Cheah went on stage to share the word of God. Through his message, we all truly understood the importance of giving and the true meaning of Christmas.

After Pastor Timothy’s sermon, the Captain of the 12th Kuala Lumpur Boys’ Brigade, Mr Nicholas Yeap took the stage and gave a speech regarding the process of making Project Blessings 2016 a success and the feedback given by some of the beneficiaries blessed

through the unrelenting efforts of the students and teachers of the various groups. His speech was summarized by a video presentation prepared by Staff Sergeant Jack Lim Kuan Wei which depicted the efforts of the students making Project Blessings 2016 a monumental success. Then, student representatives from classes 3M, 2M, 10 Delta and 10 Gamma took the stage to share their testimonies regarding their experience being a part of Project Blessings 2016. Shortly after that, the representatives of a few beneficiaries went on stage to give their sharing. We heard a sharing from Mr Rahim and Mr Hakimi from the Malaysian Association for the Blind, Ms Munirah from Pertiwi Soup Kitchen and Ms Helen and Ms Linda from Grace Community Services about their respective organisation, to bring about awareness about the plight of the people needing aid and how has their organisation benefitted them and how has the project benefitted their organisation.

After all of us present had listened to the sharings by the beneficiaries, the Principal of Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (International) took the stage to give a speech and thanked to all those who poured in their effort, namely the boys and officers of the 12th Kuala Lumpur Boys’ Brigade Company, Homeroom Teachers as well as the rest of the students involved. Then no Christmas Celebration would ever be complete without Christmas Carols. There was no lack of those in this year’s Christmas Celebration. The worship team, once again under the leadership of Corporal Siew Hui Zhuan took the stage to lead all the students present in a time to sing Christmas Carols such as We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Angels We Heard on High and many more.

All joyous occasions, particularly celebrations must come to an end. We all were disappointed when the time came when it was time for the celebration to end. Mr Oliver Wong, went on stage to close the celebration with a closing prayer. Then the ceremony adjourned. With that, Project Blessings, helmed by the 12th Kuala Lumpur Boys’ Brigade came to a close.

Events and projects all may all come to an end but this one left us with the importance of giving as well as the true meaning of Christmas.
