A DECADE IN THE BRIGADE

On the 2nd of July, the 12th Kuala Lumpur Boys’ Brigade celebrated their 10th year anniversary. This event was significant to all the boys the day marked the 10th year since the founding of the company. This joyous celebration was attended by a total of 243 comprising of guests coming from the Boys’ Brigade Malaysia Kuala Lumpur State Council, Wesley Methodist Church Kepong, the sponsoring church of the 12th Kuala Lumpur Boys’ Brigade, girls from the 9th Kuala Lumpur Girls’ Brigade, the Methodist Council of Education, administration board of Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (International) and last but not least, the ever supportive parents of the boys.


The event started off with a prayer by Pastor Oliver Wong who is currently the Chaplain of Wesley Methodist School (International) who prayed for the smooth flow of the event and God’s grace upon the 12th Kuala Lumpur Boys’ Brigade. Then the singing of the Malaysian national anthem, Negaraku, Anchor Song was done. Then the colour party marched in with the hymn “Underneath the Banner” playing. The colour party was comprised of Side Sergeants Sergeant Yap Ming Yang and Sergeant Nicholas Ng Kuan Yao, Corporal Samuel Siew Hui Zhuan as the Colour Sergeant Major, better known as CSM and Warrant Officer Jason Pereira as the colour bearer. The sight of the colour party marching in was a grand sight indeed.


The first performance of the night went off with a bang with Private Andy Sew Jia Pao and Private Joseph Chan with a Wushu performance which ended with thunderous applause. Then the Principal of Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (International) had her address and during her speech she brought up how much the company has grown since its induction

in 2006 and it covered another milestone with the first generation of its’ boys becoming officers and the contribution of some of the boys to the school. After her enlightening speech, Privates Isaac Wong and Isaac Ong did a Chinese Yoyo performance which took the breath of the crowd away. Then, Private Ng Xian Kai conducted a magic show entitled “Are Your Eyes Fast Enough”. After the magic show, the Guest of Honour, Pastor Yew Nieng Song who is also the founding Chaplain of 12th Kuala Lumpur Company delivered his address. We all listened attentively.

Then we had another performance led by Annabelle Tan and her team named HAHA. Annabelle and her team performed a few songs and all of us enjoyed it tremendously. Then we had another magic show by Lim Shaunming. Gales upon gales of laughter were heard during the performance as we laughed tirelessly at the hilarious performance. Then another singing performance was done by the 12th Kuala Lumpur Live Band which was led by Corporal Alex Ong. Then the emcee of the night, Staff Sergeant Ong Wil Sern made the announcement regarding the winners of the 10th Year Anniversary Instagram Competition.

Mr Nicholas Yeap, Captain of the 12th Kuala Lumpur Boys’ Brigade then delivered his speech. He talked about his journey with 12th Kuala Lumpur and his struggle to bring the Company to where it is today and he gave thanks to God who was with him throughout the


whole time. Then the Percussion Ensemble, the Pride and Joy of the company took the stage and took the crowd away with their rhythmic and lively beats. We all enjoyed the performance tremendously.

All things must come to an end. The fantastic night came to a close with the marching out of the Colour Party with the hymn “Onward Christian Soldiers” playing and the singing of the BB Vesper. Then we went on our own separate ways.
