Boot Camp 2017

On the 13th of January 12th Kuala Lumpur Boys’ Brigade first camp of the year, Boot Camp 2017, was held. Boot camp can be known as an introductory camp for the Year 7 so that they can learn about what BB is about and what do we do normally. The camp started at 3.30 p.m. on the 13th of January, which was right after school ended on Friday.

The first thing that happened was that Corporal Hui Zhuan gave the campers a brief explanation on what was going to happen on the 3 days 2 nights camp in school. Then, all campers moved into their respective squads that was assigned earlier on. In squad, they moved their luggage to the dorms designated for each squad. A quick ice breaking game was led by Lance Corporal Justin and Lance Corporal Yong Ze before the

campers had their first “Handbook Course” on the history of BB, for examples, who was the founder of Boys’ Brigade and where it was founded. Around 6.pm., the campers had their dinner after their shower earlier on. After that, they had a lesson that talked more about the history of Boys’ Brigade and a short drill session on the basics of drill. Then, all the squads played Capture the Flags at the assembly ground under the arrangement done by Lance Corporal Yi Heng and Lance Corporal Jian Xun. After the game, campers had some supper before they went to sleep.

On the second day, all campers had a short physical training session to warm themselves up early in the morning. Then, they had their breakfast in the canteen. After taking the breakfast, campers experienced how our weekly parade are as they went through uniform inspection, praise and worship, word session and drill. Also, the campers had their course regarding the three main songs that all BB members should know how to sing and lesson about citizenship before they had a short game prepared by the NCOs. After the campers had their lunch, they continued to have lessons on BB uniform and the awards that can be obtained and ways to obtain the awards. They had drill session again to refresh their memory on what they learn earlier before they had free time to play sports and shower for dinner. After dinner, a Christian Education session was held. Right after the session, campers had the one of the most exciting session in the camp, the Treasure Hunt. In the time given, the campers, that were in their respective squads, were supposed to look for characters acted by the NCOs and get clues to solve the challenge given. Campers had supper again before they went to sleep after the intensely brain power consuming game.

On the third day, camper had physical training in the morning and took their breakfast. After breakfast, all the campers attended a short Sunday service led by the Lance Corporal Zander. Then, they had their last drill session and teambuilding activity at the assembly ground. After lunch was taken, campers went back to the dorms to pack their bags and got ready for Awards Day. Awards Day can be known as a ceremony where BB members who passed certain criteria for a badge obtaining that badge and get acknowledged about that. After Awards Day ended, campers were dismissed. Everyone took their luggage home.

Boot camp 2017 was definitely a good experience for the Year7 boys as it was their first camp since they came into the school and we could see that many of them enjoyed it.
