Fire and Rescue
On the 5th of August, a Fire and Rescue course was held for the 12th KL members along with some 4th KL members at the fire station at Jalan Hang Tuah. At 7 a.m., the 12th KL members arrived, falled in at the front of the fire trucks and greeted the 4th kl members. After that, members from both companies were split up into separate classes of basic level and

advanced level, which were held at different rooms.
There were 2 firemen who were in charge of the basic level class. We started off the course by watching a few videos about the dangers and effects of fire and also the role of a fireman during a fire. After that, there was a 10 minutes break for the members. Then, we were taught on the different ways of carrying people from danger such as the fireman’s lift, the 2-man carry and 3-man carry including demonstrations by the firemen. We were then given the chance to try out carrying the other members in groups in an open space outside the room with them guiding us. We were told that the fireman’s lift was the most important way for us as our practical exam is based on it. After that, we were given a 40 minute break to look for a partner who has a similar body weight with us so is it easier for us to carry each other in preparation of the test later.
After the break, we split into our pairs and each pair took turns waiting into a room to take

the test, which is to carry each other with the fireman’s lift. A few of us struggled initially to complete the test but we gradually learnt and in the end, all of us managed to complete the test and pass. After that, we had KFC for lunch. However, there were certain problems that caused delays for our lunch. We were then taught about the different types of fire extinguishers, which includes one which uses carbon dioxide and one which uses foam. We were told that the one which uses carbon dioxide is better indoors as it is not as messy and also because there is less oxygen indoors compared to outdoors. We also learnt the different ways to put out a fire, which is mainly to take away what makes the fire burn from the fire such as air. All of us then proceeded outside, where the firemen lit a fire and some ofus had the opportunity to wear firefighter suits and carry fire extinguishers to put out the fire.
After that, all the members involved in basic and advanced lined by in their 2 respective lines and got into firetrucks, going for a short ride. After everyone came back, we had the opportunity to see and take photographs of all the equipment in the fire trucks such as knives and hoses. Then, everyone gathered and went home after that.
