"As I entered Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (International), I was introduced to the 12th Kuala Lumpur Boys' Brigade company. However, it didn’t start off with me falling in love with BB immediately. The new recruits including me all underwent the vigorous boot camp at the start of the year, and have to admit: I did not expect it to be such a hard “battle”.

Week upon week after the boot camp, I started to lose interest in uniform bodies. I really did not like the idea of waking up at 6 in the morning on Saturdays, but my mother told me to continue and finish the compulsory year in the brigade. A few months have passed. On my birthday, I was added into the company's WhatsApp group chat. Who knew being part of the company would be the best birthday present I have ever received? I got to meet great and kind seniors and NCOs. I found out that my classmate was also going to parade every week, so I thought: finally, someone to go with me. Another few more months down the road and I was starting to take on more and more challenges and leadership roles, learning that it wasn’t about the glamour in wearing the uniform, but rather the way we behave, stand out as a company and lead others into the light of God. My journey was far from a walk in the park, it had its ups and downs.

Very recently, I got a deep cut while handling a ceramic tile in school. Immediately, I washed off the wound and reported to LCpl Aaron Leong, who is in charge of first aid. While I was being bandaged by him, LCpl Daryl Yeow phoned my dad, and other BB members such as Pte. Shun Xuan, LCpl Ernest and Pte. Oscar Tham were there to tell me jokes, easily letting me forget the seriousness of the injury. To this day, I am really thankful for those that were there to help me when I was weak. I wish to continue serving in the brigade as a child of God, being Sure and Stedfast and pushing through challenge after challenge that I come face to face with. According to the 12th KL Hakka, we never give up, strong as we are. It hasn’t been the perfect year, but those memorable moments will be carried next to my heart forever."-Private Christopher Fong, 2018
