"As a young boy, I have always been fascinated at uniform units. It didn’t take that long until I was introduced to the Boys’ Brigade in my church, so I signed up in the junior section. Little did I know that BB times would be held in the wee hours of Saturday mornings, and so I

skipped every single parade. Years later I enrolled into WMS and joined 12th KL, but it never really struck me that I would stay for long. Eventually, I found myself attending Pesta Johor 2012, and since then I have found my devotion to serve in the company. Back in the days, I was also a very arrogant boy. In my primary years, you would see me boasting how strong and muscular and charming I was, even though I was really fat and nothing near good looking. I was full of pride to judge the speck of dust in other’s eyes, when I failed to realize the stone in mine. For it is said in Luke 14:11, “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. ”The brigade made me a more humble and down to earth person, through showing me real examples that became my daily inspiration. SSGT. Wil Sern is a good example, hardly do you ever see a strong leader like him do the dirtiest of tasks, from wiping tables to sweeping the floor and unclogging drain pipes, with nothing but the passion to serve. Not forgetting my good friend, Sgt. Ming Yang, you don’t come across people like him nowadays, a person who never does boasts himself no matter

the achievement, and trust me, he has achieved the greatest of feats many would wish to ordain. Another memorable lesson that I have gained from the brigade was about making assumptions. Assumptions may seem harmless at first, but over time the crisis will arise. I learned that we must always be sure and stedfast, making sure that everything we do is done for, and ask for anything if needed. I learned this lesson from the first NCO training camp years back, and I still remember the clear words Captain said that got stuck with me ever since. “Never ever assume, because you will just make an ASS, out of U, and ME. Apart from these three valuable lessons learned, my journey in the brigade so far is not a stroll in the park. The past 7 years have been filled with blood, sweat and tears, but close bonds have been formed and bittersweet memories were created, and all of it will remain forever etched in my heart."-Sergeant Nicholas Ng, 2018
